Labour Party (EMEP), Turkey

Founded in 1996, the Labour Party (EMEP) takes scientific socialism, the world view of the working class, as its guide; the solidity of its ranks is based on the voluntary ideological, political and organisational unity of its members.

The party derives its fighting power from this voluntary unity in its ranks; it does not allow grouping and factional activities that would disrupt this unity, which is the basis of its strength.

EMEP derives the legitimacy of its organisation and struggle from the justness of the cause of the emancipation of the working class. The continuity of its existence, work and organisation is essential; the continuation of its activity under all conditions is one of the most important features of its line.

EMEP gathers conscious, determined and self-sacrificing elements of the class in its bosom. It attaches special importance to the formation of its members and cadres as ideologically, politically and culturally advanced and developed personalities.

Criticism and self-criticism is not only a mechanism that connects the party to the masses, but also a basic method of education within the party, one of the basic means of developing the creativity of its members and cadres and working with increasing energy in their organisations. While encouraging a self-critical attitude within the ranks of the party, it does not allow criticism to be suppressed and turned into slander or praise.

EMEP is the representative of the International Conference of Marxist Leninist Parties and Organisations (CIPOML) in Turkey. While supporting the struggle of the working class and peoples of the world, of which it is a component, on every front, it acts with the understanding and spirit of full equality, non-interference in internal affairs and international solidarity in its relations with sister parties. It demands from its members active and self-sacrificing work in the consolidation of international relations between the workers of all countries of the world.

The youth organisation of the Party carries out its activities under the name of Labour Youth.

In the 2 June 2011 elections, the party’s chairman Abdullah Levent Tüzel was elected as an independent Istanbul MP of the Labour, Democracy and Freedom Bloc.

In the 2023 general elections, as part of the Labour and Freedom Alliance, EMEP entered the elections from the lists of the Green Left Party. EMEP’s vice chairs Sevda Karaca and İskender Bayhan were elected as MP’s.
