The international solidarity of the working class is crucial to strengthen the struggle against the increased danger of war and militarization. It is the response to the efforts of bourgeoisie and monopolies to make the working classes of each country undercut each other. It is a necessary part in the struggle against the EU and European countries’ anti-labour plan to “Make Europe great again” (MEGA) through the redistribution of billions of social assets to the war industry and the strengthening of the European monopolies.
Strengthening European imperialism is not the answer to the current situation. The imperialist EU does not mean peace and security, but the opposite. This has been clearly demonstrated by the war in Ukraine and support for Israel’s genocide in Palestine.
We say Neither Trump, nor Poutine nor European “defense”!
With the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the USA, international conflicts, including those between the USA and the EU, have dramatically intensified. Trump is the representative of the currently most aggressive sections of US capital, who want to stop and reverse the decades-long decline of US imperialism in a violent way and to make US imperialism “great again”. To mobilize great parts of society for the aims of imperialism, we can observe an accelerating fascization in the USA and worldwide.
All this is an expression of the increasing contradictions between the imperialist powers like USA, EU, China, Russia. Especially the rise of the capitalist and imperialist China has heated up the competition and struggle for world economic domination. Trump and several of his administration officials have always referred to China as the USA’s “strategic” enemy. It is the only major imperialist power that can challenge US hegemony, especially if it can develop alliances.
To win this struggle US-Imperialism has made an important change in his foreign relations. Trump seeks for an agreement with Russia on Ukraine to redistribute this country and his important resources. US-Imperialism seeks to weaken the links between Russia and China and to create new alliances. By doing this he open shows the real aim of the war in Ukraine: A battle over land and resources in which Ukrainian soldiers are dying on behalf of US and EU capital, not for “freedom or democracy”. How fragile these attempts of US-imperialism to create new alliances are, we can see, when the Trump-administration threatens Russia with new blockades and higher tariffs, because Russian imperialism took advantage of the situation to occupy larger parts of Ukraine. It’s a deal between robbers at the expense of the peoples.
For the imperialist countries in Europe, especially Germany and France, this change means a weakening of their influence.
In Ukraine they have tried to be an important player in the deal of the robbers. They too wanted to gain the control over the raw materials, cheap energy and to extend their sphere of influence. They have made high investments by selling weapons, giving loans, incitement of war to bring defeat to Russia. Now they are in a fear not to participate in the division of the loot.
Their answer to this new situation is more weapons, more militarization and more austerity policy. EU has now approved a package of 800 billion Euros for armaments, while it continues to cooperate closely with NATO warmongering alliance. At the same time all European countries increase their military budget. Germany for example has approved an additional budget of 1.000 billion Euros. France is offering its atomic weapons as a protection shield for Europe, but under the control of French imperialism. Great Britain seeks to have more military cooperation with EU. Although EU membership was rejected in a referendum in Norway in 1994 by the majority of the people, Norway’s ruling class is now under the pretext of “security” striving for EU membership.
EU and Great Britain encourages Ukrainian leadership to continue, intensify and prolong the war. But the “European unity” is fragile because of the competition between the imperialist countries. France and Germany are struggling against each other for the leadership in Europe. Italy with the ultra-reactionary Meloni-government tries to install special relations to Trump, like Hungary too. With this reactionary policy of militarization fascist and racist forces are in the rise in whole Europe.
All this threatens the working class and the people in whole Europe. With fascization, capital wants to subordinate the working class to its policies and at the same time weaken it through division and hatred. They have to pay – with social cuts, lowering wages, extending work time, worsening living conditions and in case of war with their lives – as we can see in Ukraine.
We as Marxist-Leninist parties and organizations in Europe call on the working class and the peoples to unite against this policy on their backs and to fight against it together, for bread, freedom, peace and friendship among peoples – instead of misery, fascism, rearmament and wars of plunder.
Only the unity and struggle of the working class and the oppressed people against the barbaric capitalist-imperialist system will open the way for fundamental changes in the conditions of labour and social life.
Neither Trump, nor Poutine or European “defense”!
No to national unity behind warmongers!
No to militarization and fascization!
