Resolution on Western Sahara

Since 1975, the Sahrawi people have been living under Moroccan occupation. The Moroccan regime succeeded the Spanish monarchy in oppressing the Sahrawi people, who organised all forms of resistance, including armed struggle led by the Polisario Front (Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and the Golden Valley) until 1991. A ceasefire was then declared with a view to holding a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people, in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

The Moroccan regime continues to violate this ceasefire, which the Sahrawis declared they were no longer bound to respect in 2020. This violation is due to the Moroccan regime’s insistence on preventing the referendum from being held and its promotion of a different approach, focused on granting autonomy to the Sahrawi people within Moroccan sovereignty – an approach rejected by the Sahrawi people. The Moroccan regime has mobilised all its resources, including its organic submission to US and EU imperialism and its widespread normalisation with the Zionist occupier, to impose its approach as part of a reshaping of North Africa, the Sahel and sub-Saharan Africa, regions rich in resources and of vital strategic importance. This reshaping serves imperialist objectives and perpetuates the dependence of these countries and the misery of their populations.

The International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organisations;

– Affirms its principled support for the Sahrawi people in their struggle and their just and legitimate aspiration for self-determination, including the complete liberation of their territory and the establishment of their nation-state.

– Condemns the systematic violations and attacks perpetrated by Morocco against the Sahrawi people and its activists, whether through forced displacement, violations of their rights or various forms of repression.

– Condemns imperialist interventions and the manipulation of UN resolutions aimed at rewarding the Moroccan regime for its shameful positions, particularly those concerning the Palestinian cause and its regional role, with the aim of further enslaving the region and its peoples.

– Calls on all progressive forces around the world to support the Sahrawi people in order to end the occupation and allow them to freely decide their own destiny.
